Medellín's diamond: how smart development is raising property values in western Antioquia
FincaHouse Team · June 12, 2026
In 2015, Medellín won the World Smart Cities Award, recognizing an urban transformation built on mobility, public space and inclusion. What few foresaw at the time was how that vision would spread to the neighboring towns in the west.
From the Aburrá Valley to the west
San Jerónimo, Sopetrán and Santa Fe de Antioquia are no longer just weekend getaways: they have become a natural extension of the metropolitan area. Road connections, digital connectivity and demand pressure from Medellín push prices up year after year.
Western Antioquia doesn't compete with Medellín: it benefits from its growth. Every infrastructure improvement in the city brings the region closer.
What it means for investors
Average appreciation in the area exceeds 8% a year, above inflation and many traditional financial instruments. Those who buy in today are entering an early stage of a development cycle that is only beginning to consolidate.
